Realme 5 Design
Realme launched its latest Realme 5 smartphone. It has updated its design a bit with its latest device. The device is made up of a polycarbonate body with a laminated plastic back, and it also has a large display. Realme 5 has a design of the diamond pattern on the backside that has been updated to a more crystalline pattern, which looks very neat and helps the phone stand out in the competition of other phones. The Crystal Blue finish is very striking, but if you’re looking for subtlety, the Crystal Purple would be your choice. Also, minor scratches from day to day use are less visible on the purple colour than blue colour.
The size of this phone is large and even also with your large hands, you will struggle to tap on the upper side of the display. Thankfully, Realme offers a one-handed mode to tackle this issue. The weight of this phone is nearly 200g which is quite heavy. Button placements are very good. The volume and power buttons are placed good and at the bottom of the phone, you will get the single speaker, headphone socket, and a Micro-USB charging port.
Realme 5 has a 6.5-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720×1600, with a small dewdrop notch and fairly slim bezels all around the screen. The notch is smaller on the Realme 5, although sometimes it’s not easily noticeable at first sight. Realme has used Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection of this phone. You will get a pre-applied screen guard, which is quite annoying for us but everyone has its own choice. Brightness is more good, and the colours had good saturation. The sharpness of text and icons isn’t the best but this is only noticeable if you use this phone along with a phone that has a full-HD screen.
Realme 5 is the first set of Realme phones to come in four cameras at the back. You will get a fingerprint sensor in the middle of the rear, which works well. Face unlock option is also available. Just like previous Realme phones, face recognition is very quick. In low light conditions, the screen compensates for the lack of light so you won’t get any kind of problem in unlocking your phone even in the dark.
According to Realme, this phone features multi-layer humidity protection for the SIM slots, gaps, battery cover, etc, and also claims it should be able to survive light splashes of water.
Talking about the box content, the Realme 5 comes with a silicone case, a 10W adapter, a Micro-USB cable, an extra screen guard, a SIM eject tool, and the usual quick start and warranty booklets.
SPECIFICATIONS AND SOFTWARE
Realme 5 is the first phone in India with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC. As the name suggests, this processor is between the Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 675. This SoC is built on an 11nm fabrication process, hence making it more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 660 and it uses the same Kryo 260 cores. The integrated GPU has been upgraded to Adreno 610 which helps in improving your gaming experience.
Realme launched this phone in three variants — 3GB of RAM with 32GB of storage at Rs. 9,999; 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage at Rs. 10,999; 4GB RAM with 128GB of storage at Rs. 11,999.
Talking about the Realme 5 Specification include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5, a tray for two Nano-SIMs plus a microSD card of up to 256GB, it also supports four satellite navigation systems, USB-OTG, FM radio, and other normal sensors.
The Realme 5 comes with the latest ColorOS 6.0.1. Realme has added something new to the interface, as compared to Realme X. Realme own apps, such as ORoaming, Calculator, etc.
ColorOSof Realme 5 has gotten rid of the oversized bubbles around notification toggles. This gives it a flatter and cleaner look. The battery section in the Settings app is also easier to read. You won’t get any kind of battery graph.
We didn’t get any kind of issues with spammy notifications from apps. Realme has some preinstalled apps, including DailyHunt, Helo, etc, but you can uninstall them whenever you want.
PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY LIFE
Realme 5 in day to day usage proves to be very impressive. It is quite-heavy and one-handed use is a challenge. The case given by the Realme in the box gives protection to your phone. The display is very good and its size is good for watching movies.
While playing heavy games we didn’t notice any kind of heating. The device gets slightly warm, but not hot, even after a 30-minute match in PUBG.
Audio speakers are little tinny, but the placement is very good as it doesn’t get easily blocked when holding the phone horizontally. Realme has its partnership with Dirac, which gives its ‘Real Sound Technology’. Unlike Dolby Atmos Mobile, this only works only when you are using headphones.
Realme 5’s battery easily lasts beyond a day with regular usage. Realme 5 comes with a 5,000mAh battery, which lasted for 22 hours and 31 minutes in the HD video loop battery test, which is very excellent. With light to medium use, the battery manages nearly two days.
Charging the battery takes a while. From zero, it takes more than 3 hours to completely charge this phone using the bundled adapter. You won’t get any support from fast charging which is quite disappointing. If you have a habit of plugging your phone in charge each night regardless of its battery level, this shouldn’t be an issue.
FINAL WORDS ABOUT REALME 5 SPECIFICATION
Realme has made a significant upgrade over Realme 3 in Realme 5, and the fact that its pricing starts just below Rs. 10,000 is remarkable. Compared to the Realme’s previous model, Realme 5 comes with a better processor, nearly two-day long battery life, and improved cameras. Realme has also added a wide-angle and macro lens so as to give the new way to your photography.
You have to keep in mind that the weight and size of this phone are heavy and big. The bigger battery has made it a little heavy, and the tall display might not suit everyone, especially if you are a regular user of one-handed mode. Low light photography and videography are not so good.
You get a dedicated slot for storage expansion, the base variant of the Realme 5 offers better value as compared to the 128GB version, which is a little expensive considering that the phones in this range-Rs. 15,000 which offers higher resolution displays, fast charging and equal or somewhat better processors such as the Redmi Note 7S and the Realme 3 Pro. If you don’t mind the HD display, and you are a mobile photographer then the Realme 5 is a good choice considering its big battery and versatile wide and macro cameras.
